Baumgartner's Mattress World Mattress Care
The overall condition and how you take care of your mattress set will directly affect how long it lasts.
Consider your mattress and box spring/foundation as a piece of equipment that needs to be maintained and cared for in order to assure the best performance and longevity.
How to care for your mattress
Mattress pad
Be sure to buy a quality mattress protector or pad when you purchase
a new mattress. While keeping your mattress fresh and stain-free,
a mattress pad will also protect the mattress warranty. All mattress
manufacturer warranties require the mattress to be kept clean and
stain-free in the event of a warranty claim.
Bed frame/Center Support
Make sure your new mattress set is properly installed in your home.
The use a proper bed frame and center support is essential to the
life of your mattress set. It is recommended that all queen and
king sizes need to have center support legs to prevent any bowing
in the middle of the mattress.
Rotate
To maximize comfort and longevity of your mattress, it is recommended
to rotate your mattress head to foot (180 degrees) every month.
Rotating your mattress helps minimize the appearance of body impressions
and prevents you from sleeping in the exact same spot every night
for the duration of your mattress. It is also recommended to rotate
your box spring/foundation every year.
Things not to do
- Never put a board between the mattress and box spring/foundation. Although, it may enhance the sense of support for the time being it will only make the problem worse. If you’ve reached the point you need to put a board between your mattress and box spring/foundation, it is probably time to get a new one.
- Avoid sitting or standing on the edge of your mattress or box spring/foundation.
- Don't remove the law tag. The information on the label will serve as a means of identification if you ever have a warranty claim. Mattress manufacturers will not honor a warranty without these tags attached.
Things to expect from your new mattress
Body Impressions
Your new mattress is designed to conform to your body allowing you
a comfortable, restorative sleep. Just like a new pair of shoes,
a new mattress will need to get broken in by using it and will become
even more comfortable with use. If you notice body impressions,
don't worry, this is normal and means that your mattress is conforming
to your body.
Comfort
You may feel a slight discomfort with your new mattress for the
first week or so, this is normal and to be expected, your body is
used to the old mattress and your new one is now supporting your
body. Give it time. It may take up to 2-3 weeks for your body to
adjust to your new mattress.
